Job purpose

We are looking for a candidate to join the team at BeFC to assist in the creation, filing and protection of intellectual property (IP).

Source and nature of management provided

The post holder will be line managed by the Innovation Manager and will work closely with team members across different projects.

Staff management responsibility

There is no expectation for the post holder to perform staff managerial duties.

BeFC encourage and support the personal and professional development of our staff. Individual development needs will be identified through a regular review process.

Special conditions

From time to time, the post holder may be asked to assist with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. This will form part of a substantive role and no additional payment for these activities should be expected.

Main duties and responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have previous experience and strong interest with invention and patent application process. They would have a strong scientific background with previous experience of technology transfer.


1) Manage and execute the IP roadmap

2) Identify opportunities for IP creation

3) Create an IP strategy
4) Perform prior art searching

5) Assist with freedom to operate (FTO) studies
6) Evaluate patents, technologies, and markets
7) Work with employees to perform necessary experimentation

8) Assist with the drafting of patents
9) Track the company’s patent and trademark portfolio

10) Communicate with relevant IP cabinets
11) Develop and enforce an IP protection policy

Specification

Essential Qualifications/Experience/Attributes

Graduate with an engineering or scientific background (Masters degree or equivalent)

Previous experience in patent drafting

Meticulous
Take pride in the quality of their work
Organised and rigorous
Ability to work efficiently, both in a team and autonomously Translate complex ideas into clear, logical, and accurate documents Objective-oriented
Creative problem-solver
Understanding of English language, both written and oral

Desirable Qualifications/Experience/Attributes

Graduate from a degree in intellectual property law

Knowledge of the battery and biofuel cell technology landscapes

Expertise in electrochemistry
Expertise in chemistry
