Job purpose

We are looking for a candidate to join the team at BeFC to lead the firmware development for our application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) project.

Staff management responsibility

There is no expectation for the post holder to perform staff managerial duties.

From time to time, the post holder may be asked to assist with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. This will form part of a substantive role and no additional payment for these activities should be expected.

Main duties and responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have previous experience and strong interest in taking a novel embedded system (ASIC) to market readiness.

1. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards and certifications

2. Review and measure the performance of the system

3. Document design and test specifications

4. Implement firmware to meet design requirements and implementation standards

5. Perform unit, integration, and qualification testing of embedded firmware

6. Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and produce statistical reports

7. Develop low-level firmware including device drivers and communication protocols

8. Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to understand ASIC architecture

9. Provide a holistic solution for hardware and firmware integration

10. Employ best practices for optimisation considering memory and power constraints

11. Stay up-to-date with trends, emerging technologies, and best practices

Specification

Essential Qualifications/ Experience/ Attributes

Graduate with a relevant background (at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent)

Several years of experience as an individual contributor to embedded firmware development

Experience in planning, monitoring and managing resources

Knowledge of firmware development in industrial environments

Experience with RISC-V

Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART)

Meticulous

Ability to work efficiently, both in a team and autonomously

Objective-oriented

Creative problem-solver

Understanding of English language, both written and oral

Desirable Qualifications/ Experience/ Attributes

Graduate from a degree in electronic engineering or computer science

Experience in electronics certification

Experience in hardware validation

Experience with cryptographic code programming

Knowledge of ASIC design principles
