BeFC SAS, the CNRS spin-off headquartered in Grenoble, France have been named a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree for its Active Sensor Tag powered by their paper biofuel cell technology.
BeFC produce paper biofuel cells as an ecofriendly and sustainable energy solution for low-power electronics.
Their new Active Sensor Tag collects data from a range of sensors (temperature, humidity, light, pressure and 6-axis accelerometer) which is processed and stored on local memory. A selection of wireless protocols (NFC, UHF RFID, BLE, Sigfox and LoRaWAN) then provide wireless data recovery. The solution offers a digital connected solution, with minimal environmental impact, for wearable, medical, IoT; and Industry 4.0 applications.
BeFC is a university spinoff that has developed a series of breakthrough innovations allowing the use of enzymes with carbon paper electrodes to generate energy through biocatalysis. - Dr. Jules HAMMOND.
A result of decades of pioneering research into the bioenzymatic processes and properties of paper materials, the intellectual property is protected by a strong international patent portfolio. BeFC is located in the heart of the Alps, Grenoble, with both R&D and prototyping facilities.
Since their creation in 2020, BeFC has raised 5 M€ of investment, and is now developing the next generation of connected devices with our forward-thinking partners for multiple market sectors including IoT, logistics, medical, agriculture, and smart packaging.
About CES 2022 & Innovation Awards:
This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record high number of 1800 submissions. The announcement was made ahead of CES 2022, the world’s most influential technology event, happening January 5-8 in Las Vegas, US, and digitally.
The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 27 consumer technology product categories. An elite panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, engineers and more, reviewed submissions based on innovation, engineering and functionality, aesthetic and design.
Owned and produced by CTA, CES 2022, the global stage for innovation, will convene the tech industry in person and digitally, giving global audiences access to major brands and startups, as well as the world’s most-influential leaders and industry advocates. Visit CES.tech for all CES 2022 updates
