BeFC is happy to announce that our biofuel cells have been nominated at CES - the world’s largest consumer technology show, as a CES Award Honoree for the third consecutive year!
CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show, and it is the forefather of all tech events. CES has been going on since 1967! This competition definitely plays in the premier league: It’s been held in Las Vegas since 1978 and has drawn over 4,9 million attendees to the city, with an estimated economic growth of more than $6 billion dollars directly attributed to CES. The CES program is owned by the Consumer Technology Association. In this year’s edition, the CTA is partnering with the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) in support of the UN. In 2023, a particularly interesting new category of awards showcases technology advancing human rights.
This year, the competition reached a new record as CES received around 2100 submissions for the Innovation Awards. Our biodegradable miniature batteries were selected once again this year and we are proud to share that BeFC’s biofuel cells have earned the CES Innovation Award, delivered for outstanding design and engineering.
CES is a particularly well-known event because it features so-called “large public” products. The event shines light on a wide range of technologies, including 5G, AI, smart cites, wearables, fintech… and most of them are available for the private use of customers. This means that this label enjoys a worldwide recognition: although it is of great interest to the specialists, most people know that the label is a guarantee of excellence and high quality. It’s not uncommon for magasines and influential thought-leaders to review lists of the latest CES innovations and receive a huge success on their critics. During CES, the eyes of the whole world are turned to technology and everyone asks the question: what is the next discovery that will improve my home?
BeFC has a special affinity with CES. This event was an important milestone of our beginnings. Our collaboration with CES started on a victorious note that continued in crescendo over the years. BeFC attended CES for the first time in 2020, and our presence to the event constituted the price received for winning the Leyton Sustainable Challenge 2019. It was a big step for BeFC and the occasion to show the biofuel cell at the biggest tech festival of the planet. The biofuel cells were immediately noticed by important stakeholders and big-ticket investors. CES is a real prescription for success. Soon after the event, leading venture investors – Demeter, BNP Parisbas Development, Supernova Interest… approached BeFC and were interested in funding the solution that is changing the world of miniature batteries: the biodegradable biofuel cell. Afterwards, our years were punctuated by our participation in CES and we have had the great honor of being nominated as a CES Award Honoree in 2021, in 2022 and now in 2023!
